Hospitality • Full-Service Interior Design
The Client
A first-time restaurateur opening a by-the-slice pizzeria in an existing storefront, seeking a cost-conscious front-of-house renovation and rebrand to support a successful launch.
Goals
Reimagine a dark, outdated storefront as a light, welcoming, and efficient space for high-volume service with a modern coastal feel. Establish clear zoning, intuitive flow, efficient prep space, and maximized seating, while collaborating on cohesive branding and marketing assets to support a strong opening presence.
Constraints & Considerations
- Tight renovation budget prioritized toward kitchen equipment and POS
- Fixed storefront footprint and lighting locations
- Need to support staff focus during service
- Seating maximization without compromising circulation
Design Approach
Full-service interior design included concept development, space planning, millwork design, detailed shop drawings for custom casework, coordination of branding and marketing assets as well as signage design.
Custom-built elements define distinct zones within the open storefront. A shelving and display wall separates dining from prep, improving visual order while supporting staff concentration. Custom counters connect the point-of-sale station with grab-and-go slices and refrigerated displays, creating a clear service flow. Integrated trash and recycling enclosures and a discreet high-chair storage nook support daily operations and family-friendly use.
Three distinct seating zones cultivate choice and variety for dine-in guests—bar-height seating at a central island supports quick, casual meals; counter-height seating along the storefront window connects diners to street activity; and dining-height two-tops along the back wall, anchored by a custom built-in bench, accommodate longer, more social stays with flexible table configurations.
Lighting design significantly increases overall illumination without adding fixtures. Plentiful plant life, diffuse and dynamic smart lighting, earth tones, and light natural wood reinforce a connection to the surrounding coastal environment.
Outcome
A fully reimagined storefront that balances efficiency, warmth, and identity—supporting high-volume service while creating a welcoming neighborhood destination.
